Sony Gulf forecasts sale of 2.5 Million BRAVIA TV Units in FY 2011

Sony Gulf, the leading consumer electronics brand, today forecasted the sale of 2.5 million BRAVIA units during the current financial year in the Middle East and Africa region. It further estimated that its genre of Internet TV will capture 40 per cent of the projected total sales.

The consumer electronics giant has introduced 24 BRAVIA TV models, 19 of which are internet-enabled TVs.

Sony’s global ‘Television Redefined’ proposition is based on the need for television to adapt itself to complete and complement the increasing variety of hi-tech entertainment options for the home.  Network, connectivity and 3D are the three pillars on which the new Sony Internet TV range rests along with a completely new picture enhancement technology, X-Reality that reproduces high quality and realistic high definition and 3D video and also enhances picture quality of low resolution internet content. 

Osamu Miura, Managing Director, Sony Gulf FZE, said: “As viewers shift their preferences across different forms of entertainment available at home, the ability to provide a platform for watching HDTV or 3DTV, or enjoying apps and browsing the internet seamlessly on one device is crucial. Our Sony Internet TV is a revolutionary range that meets this hi-tech consumer demand and provides a one-on-one relationship with content.  It is truly ‘Television Redefined’.” 

Miura added: “We also launched the next phase of our 3D strategy in earlier this year, where we see 3D becoming more personal. We will add more 3D products including 3D movies, music, games and television programming to further cement our leadership position in this segment. Consumers will be able to capture personal 3D content in the highest quality format and easily play it back on our expanding line of 3D enabled BRAVIA TVs.”

Sony continues its evolution in connectivity with new Sony Internet TV models that feature seamless internet connectivity. This provides access to free and premium movies, video and music services through the BRAVIA internet video platform, including YouTube™. Social media enthusiasts can also look forward to the latest BRAVIA internet widgets that include Facebook™ and Twitter™. Users can stay connected with their friends simply by downloading personal widgets to the TV, enjoying real-time updates from these sites without having their TV viewing interrupted.

Most TVs also feature DLNA and Wi-Fi Direct for quick and easy sharing of photos, music and movies from anywhere in the home. The range can wirelessly share media content on compatible devices such as PCs, the iPhone, and Android phones like the Sony Ericsson Arc and PlayStation 3 consoles from anywhere in the house. These remote devices act as DLNA servers from which the Sony Internet TV can access and display photos, videos and music.

Sony Bravia HDTV's now have some of that Corning Gorilla Glass ...

Sony has announced that all their latest HDTV’s will be coming out with Corning Gorilla Glass nationwide. And even though it was just as I had predicted, and hoped for, I’ll admit I went ape when I heard the news.

But as with everything new, there’s always a skeptical look at whether it’s worth it and can it actually improve the picture of something that seems so close to perfect to begin with.

Well let me answer that for you. The answer is yes.

It’s awesome and I’ll tell you why.

Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW ) teaming up with Sony is a good thing. A real good thing. Sony never let you know before, but the HDTV’s before were thick. Okay, they were thin, but still thicker than they needed to be. And because they were thicker and made with another glass, there was some weird things happening that only someone with a very keen eye would notice. Despite the anti-glare film they had to put on them, thicker glass creates fine vertical streaks on bright whites and fast moving pictures. It’s not as big as I make it out to be, but they were there.

It’s true that potentially only half a percent of people would notice this and due to the makeup of all pieces of glass, the density and appearance of these lines would vary from panel to panel. So if you have a SONY Bravia HDTV already, odds are you still will love it, it’s just not going to be as awesome as a SONY HDTV with Gorilla Glass.

Corning Gorilla glass is only 0.7mm thick and allows for the glass to go completely to the edge of the set. This produces the best looking design for a television that you’ll probably ever see. It even looks amazing when the tv is off.

The benefits of Corning Gorilla glass make the TV even lighter and the glass is the toughest and most durable of it’s kind as it’s strengthened at a molecular level. The new glass is literally a break-through in glass technology.

Without effecting the picture in any negative way, Gorilla Glass and Sony produces a perfect image that’s just awesome. Now all I gotta do is start saving my pennies.
