RBC and Ducks Unlimited promote wetlands
The Royal Bank of Canada and Ducks Unlimited Canada, held a Wetland Conservation Day Contest for Grade 3 students at Central Park Elementary School.
Pictures of wetland birds, mammals and amphibians for their classroom wetlands were provided by RBC, and each of the three classrooms created their own wetland scene, which were judged upon by members of the RBC as well as Ducks Unlimited.
The project helps to celebrate RBC's Blue Water Day and to help educate school children about the value of Saskatchewan wetlands. The contest launched, June 10, and the judging took place June 23, at 2:30 p.m.
After viewing each wetland scene the judges decided that each classroom worked hard on the projects and were each awarded with a free pizza lunch, which was delivered to their classroom. The classroom's were Mrs. Reynolds, Mrs. Bleich and Mr. Smith's Grade 3s.
"It was a great opportunity for the students to learn about wetlands and prepare them a bit for their trip to Greenwater Provincial Park," said Chris Fiest.
The wetland scenes will be on display at the Nipawin Ducks Unlimited Banquet, which will be held Oct. 21. The Nipawin Ducks Unlimited may also receive a $1,000 grant, but they will not know until mail delivery returns to normal.
