Frugal Organization

Clearing out clutter and organizing the space in your home can save you time when cleaning and can also help relieve stress and save you money. Creating a comfortable and organized space in your home is important so that you can relax and always know where things are when you need them. Some frugal organizing tips for your home are as follows:

-         Make sure everything has a place where it “lives” or “belongs”, that way you can always put things back in the place where they belong and you will know exactly where it should always be

-         Purchase inexpensive items to help keep your belongings organized. For example, totes, crates, plastic bins in various sizes with covers, stackable cubes, book shelves, plastic drawers, boxes, shoe organizers that either go under your bed or on your closet, a portable closet for more storage space, clothing hangers, shelving, plastic or metal organizers for dishes, silverware, kitchen utensils and other kitchen items and sealable bags that allow you to remove the air from them so that they take up minimal space.

-         Regularly go through your belongings, like clothing, towels, dishes, knick-knacks and other items in your home to get rid of things you no longer use or need. Donate, sell or trash items you are no longer using or need to make more room in your home and to make room for things that may need to be replaced, for example, if you have old towels that are thin and need to purchase new ones to replace them with. Donate your old towels to a shelter or to a charity or recycle the material to be used and made new again. Cleaning out any clutter in your home will make you feel freer from having fewer things that you don’t need or use and will allow you more time and space to enjoy your home. Less clutter means less hassle and more freedom. Creating open space allows your mind and body to relax.

-         Recycle old newspapers and magazines if you’re holding on to them. If you think you would like to read an article over and over again in the newspaper or magazine, then clip or tear that article out and save it in a notebook or folder, throw the rest in to be recycled and re-used. Holding onto lots of magazines or newspapers only takes up space in your home that could be freed up to create a more tranquil and restful space. If you do want to keep some magazines make a magazine holder out of a cereal box by removing the top and cutting a square down one side for easy access to pull magazines out and put magazines in. If you don’t want the cereal box to show use some fabric or paper to cover over top of the images on the cereal box. This is a very frugal way to make a magazine holder.
