Jennifer Love Hewitt and other curvy celebrities: an odd double standard

There seems to be this bizarre double standard when it comes to curvy celebrities in Hollywood.  When Jennifer Love Hewitt donned an unflattering strapless black bikini that made her boobs looks smaller while accentuating her cottage cheese thighs, it wasn’t long before snarky bloggers all over the internet were attacking her figure.  However, in a skintight red dress and Spanx, she managed to mold her thicker frame into a more flattering shape (Something Kim Kardashian is a pro at).

The double standard with curvy celebrities really seems to have a lot to do with clothing.  Take Tyra Banks, for example.  The former model was once called fat when she was photographed in a bathing suit, and now the Daily Mail is going after her bikini-clad fuller figure again.  However, when she covers up a bit more and wears clothing that holds everything in, no one really cares that she’s a few pounds heavier than her modeling days.

Like Kim Kardashian, Christina Hendricks is one of the curvy celebrities whose weight is hardly ever portrayed negatively because she knows how to properly dress her figure with plenty of support and smoothing from the proper undergarments.  It could be argued that this also has something to do with the fact that her boobs are so fabulous, but Jessica Simpson, another busty “actress,” has become the butt of quite a few jokes because of her ballooning figure. 

So why doesn’t Jess get the positive attention that Christina does?  Well, the words that come out of her mouth aside, she does a horrible job of dressing her new body with shapeless dresses.  Instead of trying to work with what she’s got like Christina Hendricks, she tries to cover everything up, which actually makes her look even bigger.

Her former fellow teen pop star Christina Aguilera has also packed on some pounds and taken a few punches because of her weight lately.  While her problems with public drunkenness also make her an easy target, she does herself no favors by suffering from the opposite problem of Jessica Simpson -- she wears clothes that are too tight and too short for her fuller frame (here’s a tip, Christina -- if you wear skintight leggings, please wear a tunic or dress with them that covers up your crotch area).

Despite the extravagance of the vogue the designers try to balance fashion trends. Together with the complex designs you will always find models in calm colors, simple cuts and sophisticated patterns. And it is quite natural – it is notorious that the uniformity is boring. The chemical origin of the materials was even especially underlined by using bright, dazzling colours, shining even in the darkness. The leggings used to scram: look at us, we are artificial kitsch! But there was a reason for this look. It was like a kind of challenge at the time – a challenge to bourgeois gravity and stability of life, rebellion against the old materials.

Today leggings seem almost noble. They are either black or with the colours of the earth: grey, brown, very dark blue, burgundy, wine-red, and beige. Certainly, they have man made fibers in their composition, but the structure of the yarn is already made so as the look of the natural components to be visible: cotton, silk, wool. The truth is that in recent years even the man made fibers have changed their look and they seem to be very natural. In any case the leggings are again thin and tight as before, but already are soft, warm and comfortable. If you want them to fit good, you better follow a healthy diet .

A shift has also appeared in how to wear leggings and in which combinations. The simple option, which is very topical and, in generally, is inspired by the 80s, is the combination of leggings (as a rule strictly black) with a long wind-jacket. You will not go wrong if you prefer this style. With an appropriate color scheme it is a practical choice for every day for rest and relaxation outside the city. In short, it is a very versatile and convenient option for the winter.
