3M to Acquire DIY and Professional Business of GPI Group
ST. PAUL, Minn. - 3M announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire the do-it-yourself and professional affairs of the IPG Group. GPI is a manufacturer and distributor of home improvement products such as tapes, hooks, insulation products and soil protection and accessories headquartered in France. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
IPS offers a wide range of products and solutions sold under such well known brands such as GPI, and Dinac Plasto, which cover several do-it-yourself (DIY) consumer needs in France and other European markets.The addition of IPS will expand 3M's product portfolio in the categories of basic and complementary markets for construction and home improvement.
"This acquisition will help us build on our platforms of existing products and accelerate our expansion and participation in the renovation channels worldwide," said Laurie A. Altman, Vice President and General Manager 3M Construction and Home Improvement Markets.
"GPI and 3M are a natural choice," said Bernard Cicuta, managing director of 3M France. "Together with IPS, we are in a unique position to better serve our customers in France and Europe."
3M building and home improvement products serve a wide variety of domestic purposes. The company provides its well-known brands ScotchBlue ™ strips painter Filtrete ™ air and water filtration products residential; 3M ™ Command ™ Adhesive hooks, hangers and paper clips and glass packaged and bulk security products, anti-slip products, electrical connectors, energy saving kits for insulating window of the indoor and outdoor use, retail and automotive refinishing products of wood.
IPG employs approximately 450 people and has sales in France and Western Europe.The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter, subject to customary closing conditions including regulatory approvals.

Gergonne Group was founded in 1962 and is based in Oyonnax, France. It has two main activities: one is industrial activity, the second is the do-it-yourself and professional affairs. The transaction is related to the whole do-it-yourself and professional affairs (adhesive tapes, insulation products, door stops, hooks, etc.) Gergonne Group and three subsidiaries, GPI SAS (adhesive strips, hooks and insulation products) Plasto SAS Adhesives (adhesive tapes and insulation products) and Dinac SAS (soil protection products and accessories ). The transaction does not include industrial activities, which remains the property of the family Gergonne.

We are entering our first cold season in a brownstone (after living in overheated apts for the past 20 yrs) and in addition to flannel sheets and fuzzy slippers, are considering winterizing our drafty, 20-yr old windows. Came across this product–3M 2141W Indoor 5-Window Insulator Kit–online and was wondering if anyone has tried it on windows with original wood frames that are stained and varnished. Our concern is that the double-sided tape will damage the wood finish. Thanks for sharing any experiences with the product or any other handy insulating drafty window tips.
