Central Warwickshire Girls Football League Open Cup Final

The two teams tested themselves out in the first 15 minutes before Laura Cumberledge put the full back under pressure and her attemped clearance came back off Laura and flew into the net. This opened the floodgates as Wyrley’s confidence grew. A fine Jemma Clews cross led to Sophie Shorrock bundling home at the far post. Clews scored with a fine drive before Shorrock scored again. The second half continued in similar vein. Hayley Turner provided a fine cross for Rachel Hall to volley home at the near post before Shorrock smashed in a left foot effort from a narrow angle. Nia Jay saved an effort that went straight at her before Clews fired home into the far corner. Clews scored a tremendous effort from 30 yards that dipped over the keeper to complete the scoring.

Highlights for each girl: -

Nia Jay – had little to do and held on well to a number of long range efforts Treble winners including the County Cup (only 1 of 3 Wyrley teams to have won a County Cup in 29 years).

But above all they have been a joy to coach and play the game as it should be played – on the ground with a passing style that I would pay to watch. Well done girls – you deserve everything you have achieved through hard work, commitment and dedication.
