Dowdales pupils' big day
Dowdales School held its prom at the Netherwood Hotel, Grange, on Thursday.
The Evening Mail is inviting all would-be prom kings and queens to send in their photos to be in with a chance of winning an exciting new competition.
The North-West Evening Mail’s Prom King and Prom Queen of the year will be voted for by our readers.
If you think you have what it takes, send in a photo of yourself in your prom attire and you could be in with a chance of winning fabulous prizes.
The winning king and queen will each win a photoshoot and poster sized print from Powder and Paint Photography, in packages worth £450 each.
In addition to their fabulous photoshoot prize the winning prom queen will also win a pampering spa day for herself and three friends at the Lakeside Hotel, Windermere.
Our Prom King will win, in addition to his fabulous photoshoot and print, four Baboon vouchers, worth £20 each, for himself and three of his friends to use at Go Ape! Grizedale.

You need to include all the information required on our voucher in your email.
If you are sending your image via email please make sure the image is at least 2MB in size or no smaller than 10cm wide and include the name of person who took the photograph.
No pictures are to be submitted that have been taken by a professional, without explicit permission from them.
The closing date for email entries is the same as for postal entries.

Working the points and the free nights or…I just give up.
The Charlotte-Williamsburg leg of this trip fell in the former category. That last night on the way back home? That last night of (the second) Spring Break from school and activities before the final, dreaded May Sprint?
The latter.
In trying to figure out where to stay in this city I’d never visited before, I learned that there was this purportedly amazing park on a river right in the middle of town and the whole area was happening. So I splurged and paid more than I usually do for hotels and got us a room right on the river.
Only a Hampton Inn and Suites, so not exactly the Four Seasons, but it was still above average for me. But it was also worth every penny.
When they give awards for travel photography…I won’t win.
Aside from everything else – museums, historic sites, natural wonders, cultural and social explorations – my favorite thing about traveling is plopping my kids in a new place and letting them crawl over rocks.
I’m probably one of the few in the Southeastern United States who had no idea that a gorgeous river flowed through the middle of Greenville and that this river was surrounded by the loveliest park and a vibrant (as they say) downtown.
It’s the Reedy River flowing through Falls Park . There used to be mills here, not surprisingly – and today there are some ruins of that history:
I live in a city which struggles with so many things, in which the opening of even one new restaurant downtown is hailed as a major step forward, even as the same small step is badmouthed by the ignorant naysayers. It’s astonishing to be somewhere like Greenville – a small city which has a downtown life that my city could only dream of at this point – well, geography helps. It’s hard for me to think of a single thriving mid-sized urban center I’ve visited that doesn’t have water in the middle of it. Real, natural, flowing water of some sort.
Water=Life.
We didn’t do much in Greenville, really. It was just one evening – but enough to convince me to return. We checked into the hotel and went straight down to the park, where the boys played for an hour. For two.
