Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy trailer raises a Smiley

First published in 1974, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy follows the investigations undertaken by the book’s central character George Smiley (Gary Oldman), an ageing intelligence officer brought out of retirement to weed out a Soviet spy working within the hierarchy of MI6 (referred to in the story simply as The Circus).

Le Carre’s thriller was famously filmed by the BBC in 1979 with Alec Guinness in the pivotal role of Smiley whilst Gary Oldman’s casting in the forthcoming film adaptation seems perfect (interestingly although central to the footage in the trailer note how Smiley is the observer and collector of facts and lets the other protagonists hint at the unfolding events).

Oldman’s spy hunter will share the screen with a hard hitting line-up of thespians that include current favourites Benedict Cumberbatch, Ciaran Hinds, Tom Hardy, Colin Firth and Mark Strong with further support from Toby Jones and the legendary John Hurt.

Make no doubt this is a classy exercise in drawing in the viewer with it’s chilling cold war atmosphere and the ruthless almost workman like characteristics of it’s spies.

Elsewhere the set design and costumes look marvellously retrospective and the screenplay by Bridget O’ Connor and Peter Straughan hints that the high standard of suspense found in the novel and it’s previous screen incarnation will be maintained.

?’ You probably think I’m crazy for dealing with stand-still traffic and wacky drivers, but don’t worry- the time will pass by quickly ’cause I’m going to check out the 4th of July Smiley Pack for my iPhone…at stoplights, of course.

Maybe if I run into Snooki and J-Woww I’ll show them my 20 new patriotic Smileys. Chicks really dig that stuff, you know?! Then, with their approval, I’m on my way to babe-ville. I’ll keep you guys posted on what happens!

It’s officially summer! The day I look forward to all year! AHHHHHH! From this point on- except for going to the office or out to a nice restaurant- I am refusing to wear pants. It’s shorts-only season, people! Oh, and bathing suits are also acceptable (duh). Who’s with me? I just hope the weather decides to cooperate with my plan.

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend and celebrated to the fullest. My bros and I had a pretty epic weekend trying to wrangle in some sexy ladiessss. It didn’t work, but still…practice makes perfect, right? This upcoming weekend is Father’s Day, which means I’m heading home to see the ‘rents. Ask me if I’m excited…go
