Closet Snoop: Katie Goode
— Katie Goode just started having a lot of fun shopping. The 17-year-old high school senior recently lost 20 pounds the healthy way: eating right and exercising, and she says that shopping for clothes now is incredibly fun.
She is not just a girlie-girl though; she’s competed twice in the Nueces County Junior Livestock Show’s Queen’s Contest. Aside from shopping, her other hobbies include raising rabbits for the Livestock Show, for which she has received the Grand Champion title twice, playing the piano and playing golf. She is humble about her successes, though, and attributes all of her successes to God’s blessings.
Three accessories women definitely need are: Jewelry for every occasion, a cute purse and a little lip gloss.
My best fashion steal to date: In April I bought a pair of coach boots originally priced at $175 for $88.
My favorite piece of jewelry: My James Avery charm bracelet. Each charm represents a part of who I am. My favorite charms are my grand piano and my golf bag charms, because playing piano and golf have both been a big part of my life.
Three words to describe my wardrobe: Cute, classy and fun!
The best way to organize your closet is: by style. The perfect outfit for an event is much easier to find when you know where to start looking in your closet.
My biggest fashion pet peeve: When a person does not care about their appearance. Anyone can be beautiful if they simply just try.
There will always be space in my closet for: more dresses. I'm beginning to think I need a bigger closet for all of them!
My ultimate dream closet would consist of: a wide selection of clothes with matching shoes and jewelry. Every outfit looks cute when you have matching accessories.
I save lots of money on fashion by: shopping during sales. There's always that weekend when a store has a huge sale.
One of my most recent purchases is: a pair of Steve Madden high heels. I was in need of brown heels and I found a pair that I loved.
One of my best accessories is: a white flower necklace with a matching bracelet that my boyfriend got me from Charming Charlie. It can always brighten up an outfit.
I can never own too many: necklaces with crosses on them. Whether the necklace is simple or bright, they always look nice and show off my faith and love for the Lord.
My favorite color to wear is: blue. It makes the color of my eyes pop.

“Looking back, my career started when I was a baby, unable to walk or talk,” she recalls. “I could crawl and my mother told me the story of how one day I crawled to the piano, pulled myself on the stool and crash, my nose hit the keyboard as I fell.

Waiting For An Echo: Day 27: The Ivories
When I was nine years old, I spent a good year or so bugging my parents for piano lessons. We'd gotten a keyboard for the previous Christmas (you know, one of the cool synthesizing kind that played all kinds of funky sound effects in addition to being an instrument), and when I wasn't scribbling stories or poetry--this was back before I'd realized I wasn't a poet--I was playing on the piano. I wanted lessons. Real bad. Anyway, my 10th birthday brought me a music book, and lessons. Hallelujah! I studied the instrument for five years or so, until my piano teacher moved away. By this point, I was sixteen, working two jobs, and taking too many classes, so the piano lessons stopped. I never stopped playing, though, and six years later, when I had my little apartment in Victoria's Cook Street Village, I splurged and bought myself an electric piano on which to play. It was a few steps above that old synthesizer, but the fact that it was electric meant that I could play it in my apartment in the wee hours of the morning, with headphones on, my neighbours none the wiser. Many were the delicious hours spent relaxing to Chopin. The piano that my parents have is also nice. But it is not MINE, not now, and it doesn't sing to me, literally or figuratively, the way that my old Scottish piano did, once upon a time. Still -- many are the hours I've spent playing this one, too. A few months ago I locked myself into playing piano at the upcoming wedding of friends, and while I'm sure I'll make a few mistakes, I'm also PRETTY sure that I've got the songs down pat. Today I practised for a few more hours, and rejoiced in the sound. I am so grateful that I managed to bully my parents into lessons all those years ago. Grateful that I've kept it up, grateful that I'm still struggling on with Chopin. When your whole life has whittled down to writing and books, music is the most wonderful escape. Sometimes, it's nice to use my hands for something other than typing on a keyboard!
