A Montana Senator, Gavin Newsom and A Blogger Walk Into A Bar

Making them too cool for me.

Thankfully, my friend Garvin planned to attend a private fundraiser last week and brought me along. Held at the Matrix Fillmore (I know) and featuring an entrance fee starting at $250, this event hoped to raise funds for Montana Senator Jon Tester .

Senator Tester is currently entrenched in a battle for his re-election again Republican Congressman Denny Rehberg. Apparently this race has gotten real serious, real fast. Which is why Senator Tester was at the Matrix schmoozing people I've never seen at the political events I usually attend. You know, the ones with Costco cheese trays and a line for the bathroom.

We arrived at 6:30 to find a gorgeous, well-dressed, glowing man standing in the doorway of the Matrix, texting on his Blackberry. "Hello Lieutenant Governor!" I said.

Yep. Gavin Newsom was standing out in front of the Matrix, bringing my stereotype of that place to vibrant life. He looked up and took a second to process who was speaking to him.

"Oh hey." He gravel-voiced me. And then he kinda put his hand on my shoulder as I walked inside.

I never know if my interaction with the LG will be one of warm embraces and inside jokes (rare and ideal) or one of thousand-yard glares and chilly body language (common and sad). But truth be told, other than Garvin, the only other soul I knew at this event was Gavin Newsom.

And much to my relief, we appeared to be "cool."

We walked inside and checked-in, only to have the LG follow us and upon passing me, warmly shoulder-handed me FOR A SECOND TIME. He then looked directly into my eyes and said, "Thanks so much for coming."

While this sounds like the sort of thing Gavin Newsom says to everyone at wildly expensive fundraisers, trust me when I tell you there was a lot of personal history and complex emotion that he conveyed with his eyes and his hair.

The LG had other people to schmooze with, so we hung out by the bar drinking Diet Cokes until the speeches started. I enjoyed another awkward conversation with Craig of Craigslist, and I got to meet the Senator.

Senator Tester has a decidedly John Goodman-vibe. He is also missing the three middle fingers on his left hand. A farmer by trade, Senator Tester apparently lost his digits as a kid in a " meat grinding accident ." As a result, Senator Tester = badass.

I remember a friend in college once said to me that if she died with all of her fingers, she'd be disapponted because it would mean that she hadn't really lived. I was tempted to share this college memory with Senator Tester, but opted against telling a perfect stranger how he should feel about his missing fingers.

Then you have these policy driven Nazis that have literally infested all levels of governance and social services. Basically in my country and province we went through massive cutbacks in social services a few years ago and anybody that isnt driven towards a sort of productivity quota was let go. Essentially those actually interested in genuinely helping others were let go and we have the current nazi like state in front of us. This is why when you get worried about 2012 (which by its very nature is a recurring curse and ritual magic) Just remember that the world does care for you. The people in control in various realms of association however are too worried about their quota or their policy to really give a damn about the poor or the dejected or those that cant care for themselves. While I could have a blog about the paranoia rant of 2012 or claim to be in connection with alien hybrids from other galaxies (I probably would have more traffic lol) I have attained to be a somewhat calming force amidst so much illusion. And there is illusion everywhere From those that claim to be on your side to those that oppose then you have people changing their personalities on people and your left confused Many look to alternative media for answers because they aren’t getting it from the plastic surgery induced faces that are in mainstream media and there is more illusion. It seems the answers may lay with enlightened beings that help out virtually on blogs such as this, or your neighbours or your friends but really the answers lay within your own mind. People around you...
